I don’t usually read many fantasy books, but we lost power for multiple days and it already read everything on my Kindle, so I read real books. This was unexpectedly enjoyable. A common sense. military guy becomes a butler to a wizard; initially he is in quite a bit of disbelief, but gradually comes around and allies against those who are trying to separate him from his fortune.

2 Dec 23 - Buddy read with Susan and Tam

---------------

I was completely charmed by this book. It's relatively quiet, and I'm not exactly sure why I loved it so much. I'm sure part of it was how Mulligan fitted into the household as though it had been waiting for him. Magic, I'd say. And the fact that the story is different from anything I've ever read. Then there's the narration by Tom Taylorson... :chef's kiss: ...perfection.

Audible seems to think it's a series although it's not designated as such on GR. I hope there's another one in the works!

I couldn’t put this book down but at the same time find it hard to describe what made me like it so much. It’s not full of action and fighting, instead a description of the main character’s growth into an unexpected life. I was fully engaged by the characters, both the good guys and bad. Maybe that is what pulled me in and kept me anxious for work to end so I could listen more—wanting to learn who prevailed in the end.
Looking forward to the next book

A fantasy slice of life about an ex Army medic who becomes a butler for an older gentleman wizard. The author had previous military experience and it comes out in the main character without making that the only character trait. A comforting read that kept me enthralled without being bored.
