This is a case I didn’t know a lot about before reading this book. I knew the basics but didn’t realize just how deep it went. Michelle’s dedication and drive to find The Golden State Killer was incredible, and it saddens me deeply she’s no longer here to see not only how big of a difference she made, but also the killer being brought to justice. This was an absolutely mind blowing  book and I loved it.

I understand why I felt this way, but this book really felt all over the place and disjointed and hard to follow. It felt like a first draft. It also felt weird to read because the Golden State Killer was identified and caught after this book was released, so it was weird to read about her questioning who he is when I'm sitting there knowing all of that information.
Read from the Provo library.

the author had such a powerful way of writing that you could tell the difference in the sections that were pieced together posthumously. she was really respectful of the survivors and victims and you could tell that she was passionate about the subject matter in a way that you could see her whole heart was in this book

what a spectacular, well-written book that i will never read again.

i'm not really into true crime but i decided to read this after finishing the mysterious case of the alperton angels, which was partly inspired by michelle mcnamara. this was a true challenge to read and i considered dropping it several times because the content was so grim, but it was just too damn good to abandon. i loved it but i'm ready to read something else now.
