The Dear America books are such wonderful glimpses into significant moments in history. This particular title was written from the perspective of a young man who traveled from Missouri to California with the Donner Party. It was a quick read but exceptionally well done. All the information in the book is historically accurate, even down to the characters, who were real people. The horrific events of this incident were handled discreetly but reading this as an adult I found it to be quite impactful and I really felt transported back in time. There's a short epilogue and informational section at the back of the book that offers additional information and photos that relate to the story. Such a fun way to experience history! Highly recommend these books for young and old alike.
