WOW, the varying perspectives in this were equally horrifying and disturbingly fascinating. The storytelling in this was very unique. Overall 3.75 ⭐️ read for this dark thriller.

Other people have commented on how dull or repetitive the prose is in this book, but I feel like the style really suits the characters who are all significantly disturbed. The story really resonates with me across each person's motives, and the complexity of child neglect and its consequences are exposed in such a raw and in-your-face way. Sure, it's pretty on-the-nose, but I can't say that I didn't enjoy it.

This feels like the zenith piece of the split-POV 'In a Bamboo Grove' shit that Ryūnosuke Akutagawa first pulled. And it really shows how well and horrific such an effective framing device goes to tell a story.
