challenging dark emotional informative sad slow-paced

4.75

I’ve had this book for 10 years. I’ve attempted it a couple of times, abandoned it, then attempted it again. It took me resigning from my job and a month and spare to actually finish it.

But you know what, it’s worth it. So, so worth it.

Sometimes the text gets so dark and disturbing that I had to stop and cry. There are times I scoff with disbelief at how much they let Hitler get away before they tried to put a stop to him… but then remembered I live in the Philippines, a country which elected the son of a former dictator and has continuously let that family get away with murder (literally)

“Perhaps it will help too if the erring governments and the wondering people of this world will remember the dark night of Nazi terror and genocide that almost engulfed our world and that is the subject of this book. Remembrance of the past helps us to understand the present.” - William Shirer, 1990
