A breathlessly paced and richly imagined journey through a portal into another time. So difficult to craft a story like this with absolute integrity but Ransom Riggs pulls it off with aplomb. As soon as I started this book I couldn't wait to share it!

I just... can't decide if I liked this book. It was interesting?

Made it two hundred pages and got bored with it. Couldn't make myself care enough to finish it. Nice pictures though.

An endearing coming of age tale that is part magic (aka peculiar) and part historical fiction. It was an easy read. Not nearly as scary as I thought it would be.

Very clever and intriguing premise. I liked it a lot, but toward the end there were times when I felt less like I was reading a self contained and entertaining story unto itself and more as though I was reading a set up for a series. I like a good series, but I don't like feeling as though the only purpose of a book is to lure me into one. A bit unsatisfying, ultimately.

I was disappointed with this book. I have heard a lot of great things about Miss Peregrine's Home for peculiar Children, and I was very excited to finally get my hands on it. I did not love it, nor did I hate it. I just was not for me. The storyline was all over the place, I didn't particularly like the writing-style and I did not really care for the characters. So I ended up just skimming through the second half of the book. I was really disappointed because I felt that this book had a lot of potential. I love the idea of telling a story through old vintage pictures, but only if it is done right. I don't think I will continue with this series.

I shouldn't have waited as long as I did to read this one. I put it off because it had mixed reviews, and the photographs made me think it was going to be weird... aliens or zombies or something, which are not usually my favorite things. I didn't want to be disappointed. But a friend said it's great so I pulled it off the shelf and I'm glad I did. This is the kind of book I want to share with my kids when they are a bit older.

If I'd known time travel was involved I would have read it long ago!

This book was engaging and kept me interested, I didn't want to put it down. I absorbed it in two days and was disappointed that it was over as quickly as it was. I loved the world that was created, the idea of the time loops, the mystery of the other ornithologist and the psychiatrist and all that business.

My only complaint is that he never asked his grandfather what made HIM peculiar. That was my first question on a very, very early page when the grandfather said "we were peculiar" and started describing the other children, but he never asked. UGH. But as was pointed out to me, there might not have been much of a story left if he'd done that...

I'm also a little frustrated that the book isn't self contained. The story didn't end at the end of the book, so now I've purchased the second one. I tend to feel that the first book should always be self contained. If you've convinced readers to continue with the series, you can leave plotlines unfinished if you want in later books. But that's ok. Now I'll get to find out how Jacob's father reacts and how they help The Bird.

After a couple pages, your attention is immediately captivated. The combination of photograph and a intricately and creative story is intoxicating! Thank you Mr. Riggs for a wonderfully unique read!
