I'm in a love-hate relationship with this series now. I need to know what's going to happen, it's easy reading but the plot and actions of the characters aren't what sings to my reading soul. There's a strange 1980s vibe to this piece (series) that I can't explain, it just feels dated or maybe retro.

All that said, the two main characters do intrigue me, I like them mostly even when there were some slightly far fetched turns to the plot. What I dislike is the whole vampire world that has been created around these two and especially the Grand Dame, Sabine.

This ended rather abruptly, not exactly a cliff hanger just at a weird stop. I guess I'll be reading on.

Did I enjoy this book? YES

Did I immediately start reading it the minute I finished the first book? Yes
Am I freaking out because the third book isn't released yet? Yup

Why? Well, everything I said in my review of the first book, and then add in PLOT TWIST after PLOT TWIST. My head is still spinning. Oh, and the way the beginning of this book stomped all over my heart - I must need therapy for how much I enjoyed it.

Thea and Julian have a lot of hurdles to get over in this book, and I appreciate how the author used that struggle as a way to move the plot along instead of us just pulling over to the side of the road and watching awkwardly from the backseat as Julian creeps along with the passenger window open yelling "Come on, get back in the car. At least let me drive you home."

Now, I'm not going to subtract any stars for this but I will be honest; occasionally something would pop up that makes you think "well isn't that convenient" BUT the author expertly fleshes is out, eventually, and you get the warm and fuzzies.

Is it spicy? More so than book 1.
Is it smutty smut smut? Nah - seems to have the same steady progression as ACOTAR in that respect.
