I love Cathy Glass' books, such a wonderful author and person. Her stories are upsetting but she writes with such empathy and warmth. Max's story is sad and the ending is bittersweet. Cathy is a brilliant foster carer, both with the children she fosters and their families.

I adore Cathy Glass, both as an author and as a woman. She's fostered so many children during her life and has worked so hard to support so many young people, that I have nothing but respect for her. I've read almost all of her books, and the way she writes about the young people in her care is truly fascinating to read. Granted, the stories are often very upsetting and at times disturbing, she writes with such warmth and empathy and there is usually a happy outcome. If you have read a few of Cathy's books you might find some things repetitive, as she repeats various foster care terms or Social Services terms, but this is good in that it means you can read any of the books and understand the terminology. 'Cruel to Be Kind' is tinged with sadness, and has bittersweet ending, but this was another fascinating read that I'd highly recommend.

This book is so incredibly captivating. Incredibly sad and happy at the same time. Cathy Glass has quickly become one of my favourites.
