This book is so incredibly captivating. Incredibly sad and happy at the same time. Cathy Glass has quickly become one of my favourites.

Cruel to be kind is a story about love, loss, hope and tragedy.

6 year old Max is sent to a foster home after being left alone by his sister's while his mother was in hospital.

Through this both him and his family begin a long journey; from realising problems with their health caused by their weight, dealing with abuse and finally discovering ways to express love to each other.

I would highly recommend this to anyone!

Like all of Cathy Glass's books, this is both heartbreaking and heartwarming. I always love to see the change that Cathy has made in a child's life. I definitely cried whilst reading this, particularly towards the end.

This one deals with issues of obesity, particularly generational obesity and the health consequences of being overweight. The reason Max is taken into foster care in the first place is his mother is in hospital because of diabetes-related amputation. It's quite a sensitive issue and I think that Cathy handled it well and empathetically.
