I recommend you take a trip to Murakami's Town of Cats.

Merged review:

I've read most of Murakami's novels and after I finish one I'm always left with a sense of awe at the creative powers at work, but never more so than with 1Q84. To say it is Murakami's best novel is of course, to a degree, subjective, but I had the feeling all the way through that this might be his strongest work and by the time the last page had been read, I felt certain of this. To try and summarize would do the novel a disservice as the story literally contains multiverses haha. Suffice it to say if you are a fan of the writer's work, you'll love 1Q84 and if you've never read Murakami before then 1Q84 is a great place to start as I can not imagine him writing a more heartfelt love story than the one he has created around Aomame and Tengo.

Among the slew of classics I've had the pleasure of reading over the past year, this book stands out as a masterpiece. This is fiction at the highest level of excellence, and Murakami at his best. I really have no words to describe it other than this--it's a journey; one that you will not regret undertaking.

By some miracle finished this book. Wish I’d given up at the beginning. My last thought from the last chapter of the book: why is Aomame banging on about her friends’ boobs?

Found the ending a bit dull. Enjoyed the characters.
