I absolutely loved this book. It is a very powerful and emotional read. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys coming-of-age stories.

I have a lot of thoughts about this book. And it's hard to put them all down but I will say that it was heartbreaking and my goodness it was hard to ready about Mary being the help. I don't know. Having someone in the family who shared her experiences makes this all the more personal and even more difficult to write. I definitely need to collect my thoughts and probably write them out.

Sad but really great, unsentimental, coming of age story. Good to recommend to people who liked To Kill a Mockingbird. Much better than (the annoying) The Secret Life of Bees and (i suspect) less heavy-handed than The Help.
