Meh. Definitely the worst of the three books. The story was all over the place--should have been two books. New characters were indistinguishable, Lyrna devolved into a wooden caricature, and a secondary character (Weaver) is vaulted into prominence at the end and comes across as a completely different person. The great mystery of the Ally is even more muddled and confused when it is "explained" and when it was done I couldn't help but think this was an unpolished draft. Still plenty of great battle scenes and character sketches, but a rather lackluster finish to an otherwise superb trilogy.

Well, not as good as the earlier ones. For most of the book, the plot is split up again, and I enjoyed most of Vaelin’s part of the story but the others, not so much. And with so much going on, I had a hard time keeping track of some of the characters.

This book was a war on an epic scale and it’s a rare book that has war I enjoy reading about. This was not one of those books, although at least there was some interesting strategizing. A bit heavy on the death for me though.  I appreciate that this book finally got to the ultimate villain of the story, but I still feel kind of meh about that I think.

Mostly I just plodded through in order to see how things wrapped up.

Satisfactory, even if it feels rushed. Now that I know there's a new trilogy beginning, let's see what Vaelin does.

I was low key hoping they would execute the queen for some reason or another.

As the 3rd and final book in the series, it was a very good book. I almost wish that there would be another story with Queen Lerna. I loved her character. She was brilliant to the point of almost evil, which I think was kind of the point. When talking with my son about this book because he was curious what I was reading, he asked me if the queen was a good person. I had to think about it because her character is neither black nor white. While she is definitely not a good person (manipulative, strong-willed, deadly), she is better than the alternative, which is part of the story.

I think at the end of this book, I felt terrible for Al Sorna.
SpoilerI don't think he was ever going to have a happy ending, but I was hoping that he could at least have an ending that didn't involve being in the Queen's service for the rest of his eternity.

Could not stay interested, too many characters to remember and pacing was much different from the rest of the series
