Oh my goodness! How did I not know about this series!!! I love retellings and this is such a great one…well, at least the first book in the series is!! It’s a bit of a mish-mash of fairytales, definitely Red Riding Hood and The Fox and The Hound, but I feel like there’s more. It continues in book two, so maybe I’ll pick up more there. If you like retellings, you’ll love this!!

DNF it about a quarter through... i thought i would like it but i was surely wrong. Tempest feels really undeveloped and she really annoys me most of the time and the subplot with the king (don't want to give spoilers) is definitely not for me. just no.

this book is so bad, it warranted me overcoming my laziness to actually comment on how bad it is. i don’t even think i finished the first chapter.

Fave Character: All of them, I found I rather enjoyed every character within this series.
Who I would recommend this book to: I would recommend this book to people who enjoy conspiracy's, something that at the moment seems like enemies to allies than to friends that might later lead into lovers.
My personal opinion on the story: I highly enjoyed the characters in this book has ive stated above. The banter between characters was entertaining when it happened and i loved how even though the main character was trained all her life (well since she was 5) she isnt this perfect no one can beat her sort of character she has a lot of flaws that help add to her character. I also enjoyed the fact that the author allows her to still have nightmares has an adult of the traumatic death of her mother. I highly look forward to seeing what happens when Tempest (Main character) actually comes face to face with that shifter outside of being delusional with fever. I also really enjoyed the format of this story it felt to me like it was easier to read and not want to skimp to the next sections. It is well spaced and setout, this was the first book that I annotated with sticky notes because it was so easy to keep with the pace of the book and not get lost while doing so. There was a few times where i had to go back because i was that absorbed in the story i forgot to place a mark.

I normally like faster paced stories. So, for me this is a slower paced story so it took me a little to get into it plus I have a bad habit of finding slow, frustrating stories to read with slow paced stories I was looking forward to reading and this was the case here. I took a couple of days off from it to finish the frustrating story and then picked this one back up.

For me, it really started to get interesting around 60% and I was invested in what was going to happen. At that point, there was not much left to the book so of course it ended right when things really started to escalate. I guess I just have to read the next book. It will be better because I know more the speed to expect.

Also, there are references to intimacy, propostions made, and rude men talking about "showing her a good time" but no real spice or intimate scenes.
