Firmly at the 4/4.5 for me, I really enjoyed this and I look forward to finding out what happens next!

I was intrigued by the concept of an incarn and how that was a chance for the pilot to still be themselves but in a more contained form, retaining the memories and information from their true body but also having new experiences. I'm glad Kaliyu got some redemption and I do hope spending time with Rithu at Kumuda is still an option once exile is finished!

Overall, there were bits of the design of the pilots/alloys/concepts that I found tough to imagine at times but it wasn't off-putting enough to stop reading, just took a little more concentration.

I really enjoyed this book – the world building is great and while some terms used were a bit confusing it was mostly explained as you read a long what they were referring too. I really enjoyed all of the characters involved – even one that was kind of frustrating at first. I really enjoyed how disability is used in this book as a benefit – the planet is found is actually more stable to those who have a specific disability. There’s also a lot of learning about different people and coming to understand that sometimes you don’t know everything you think you know.

On a far future Earth, humans live bound to the planet they almost destroyed and under the care of the beings they created-constructs that can guide their own genetics and expression. I enjoyed the interesting diversity of life and the creative world building. The characters were a bit flat, but the politics was intriguing. Looking forward to seeing what happens next.
