This book was a little bit overrated in my opinion. I was sad but i didnt bawl like i expected . I am going to read the ending again but what can i say this must have been difficult to write and i give the author credit for that :)

I did enjoy this book. Yes it’s historically innacurate, and yes the characters read like they are five and eight instead of nine and twelve. However, this serves to create a sort of innocence in this book, that is juxtaposed with the horrendous cruelty of the events of the holocaust. To someone who really finds historical fiction enjoyable, I would recommend this book. It’s a quick read, simple to understand, but hard to forget. Especially the ending!

This is one of the rare cases where I saw the movie before I read the book. Not surprisingly I like the book better. The story played out in a much more realistic way in the book.

Yes, the narration is childish but it is told from the perspective of a 9 year old boy. I liked that it read from his perspective and not from an adult talking about a nine year old boy.

Seeing these tough issues through a child's eyes reminds us of the lessons we should have learned and honestly as a mom reminded me how much differently my children and I process things.

Brunos father is the commander of the German army and because of that he and his family are forced to move from berlin to poland, next to a concentration camp. in the beginning bruno this his new home is boring because he doesn’t have anyone to play with. although the that changes when bruno meets shmuel, a boy from the other side of the fence.
