Real silly historical fiction. I sort of wish there was more time dedicated to the vampire rules for this world, but we get what we need. I feel like adding vampires to Lincoln's quest of emancipation can be a little problematic by changing the reasons he did it, but like who cares!

I can't wait for the sequel, "Martin Luther King Jr., Vampire Hunter"

This book was amazing. I seriously did not expect such a silly sounding title and interesting looking cover to contain such a well written and amazing book. Hands down my favorite book from this year. You wouldn’t think that it would work, but it just does. Abraham, you were an amazing man and president, but by God you were the most amazing Vampire Hunter to roam this planet.

The writing, the story, the metaphor of the vampire is really good. However, it is Abraham Lincoln, the president who signed the Emancipation Proclamation, so slavery and racism are a main part of the book. If that is triggering for you, be cautious.

This book, at least to me, was utterly fascinating. Perhaps it's due to the fact that I wasn't allowed to read vampire fiction when I was younger, or perhaps it's due the historical content. Either way, I very much enjoyed this book, due in large part to the sheer amount of research it took. There are many parts that I thought were embellished or simply untrue that turned out to be historically correct.

I listened to Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter as an audiobook on 1.75 x speed, and it felt like a fever dream that happened after doing hours of history and anatomy homework and then falling asleep at the desk. It's gory, historically accurate to a degree, and enrapturing. I generally don't go for political historical fiction, but I genuinely enjoyed this novel. The concept of a failed novelist being sought out by a vampire to write the narrative told in Abraham Lincoln's lifetime of journals is interesting and reminds me of Mary Shelley's introduction to Frankenstein. The shift between first and third person with the journal quotes and narration was slightly off-putting initially, but not a deal breaker.
