Have you ever had the feeling that something bigger was meant for you? Issake may not have consciously known his worth and greatness, but something in him knew! He soon realizes his true purpose on a visit back home to Timbouctou. His connection to an old being, roughly four millennia old, is reviled as he visits his family under Taliban rule. Everything he thought he knew changed forever. The writing was expressive; Nnedi Okorafor was able to include so much history and emotion in the short story. Like most of the books in this collection, this one leaves you thinking. I was left pondering family histories and beliefs. The biggest theme and takeaway for me in this was that knowledge is power—the ability to read, communicate, and connect.

I actually loved this book! I feel like it’s so detailed and I felt like I was actually there in the book. The writer did a great job!

Everything this author writes is gold

A short story with a lot packed in. I hope this is a prequel, as I'd really like to read more about Faro and Ikassa. Not quite what I'd call a fun story, but definitely one it'd like to read more of.

Love it

(spoilers) The only problem is that it ends too soon! I like the idea of someone being trapped within a book, too.

I want more

The story had my full attention. My imagination wants to explore this in a full length novel. I highly recommend.

This was beautifully written and brilliantly told but I wouldn’t expect any less from Nnedi. She is a phenomenal writer and it shows
