The plot evolves but I still don't feel the connection to the main characters I would want and/or some kind of tension, the pacing seems off because there is no order to who is telling the story and how many chapters they get.
There are also many questions unanswered or things not considered:
Spoiler
-Where did Aelric and Dezia go?
-What does Davon believe?
- Has Asha actually thought about going into the Tributary?

If there were plot twists I missed them. I feel like there are many minor problems that are solved within the next chapters but never over the length of the book.
Still the world-building is good and the writing-style is nice.

4.5 because it was a little meandering with all the flashbacks/visions. But they all accumulated to an intense ending. I’m hoping the third book with be as good as the 1st in terms of pace.

Amazing book! Augurs are not together, seperated by the boundary. Davian protects Tal'kmaar killing Meldier who was tourturing Ceaden for the whereabouts of Ashalia who has fortunately returned to her human form, but also drew upon the responsibility and unknowingly took the essence of Shadows, now trapped in a tributary, which is sucking her essence to strengthen the boundary. Fessi leaves Davian as they enter into the Prison ward (or the building?). Ceaden gets his memory of killing Davian-who had arrived from the future-back.
