If you want to write, read this first!
Writing is a task in and of itself. Knowledge is the only thing that can make writing better. If you read this novel-no matter where you are in the process-it will absolutely help make your novel better than you can imagine!

There's a lot of useful information in here. It felt a bit long winded but some of the biggest pieces I gathered was to develop backstories for every one of your characters and continue to ask why? everytime you add scenes. I'll probably use this as a reference guide here and there if I get stuck in a scene or area of my novel.

The first chapters are great, but as things progress you realize just how dogmatic this is. I hate to be harsh, but the story she uses to champion her method is horrendously contrived.

No time right now to do any of the practice bits. Will restart it when I have more time.

This is my favorite book about writing stories so far!
The previous ones I've read have focused on plot structure, but this one is filled with information about how to write the story via the lense of the characters. Aka, adding the "why it matters" to the "what" is happening", and how to build a plot that makes sense from the background of your character(s) and cause-and-effect.
It helps you take a vague idea into concrete specifics that is tailored to your story.
How to use scene cards to outline all the plots in your story.
Filled with "assigments" after each part of the chapter so you can apply what you've just learned to your work right away. It helped deepen my WIP right away. I still have quite a few "assignments" to complete, but doing them seems soo neccesarry to create strong bones for your work!

probably the best book about writing a novel I have ever laid my eyes on. Actual must haves, spoken in a language I understand and gets my brain thinking. I cannot recommend this book enough.
