It was okay. I was on the fence with whether I was bored or not the majority of the time. And Clara is annoying.

i looooved this book! it was definitely one of my favorite contemporaries i’ve read in a long time and was last full of diversity. i loved Clara, she’s very care free and only annoys me once in the book but she quickly learns from her mistakes. i love the friendships in this book, and how Clara is branching out unintentionally and all this stuff is happening to her. i love it. i love it.

also let’s talk about hamlet. he’s so stinkin’ cute!!!

Did not like the main character at first, but I grew to like her as the novel progressed and she started to grow. A cute, contemporary about food trucks in L.A., a good summer read.

Representation: Biracial main character
Trigger warnings: Fire

4.5/10, this was such an absolutely disgraceful book and I'm surprised this got an award; other readers enjoyed this book but I didn't enjoy this one. What ruined the book was the main character Clara Shin and she was one of the most annoying characters I've ever seen in any book. For starters she is such an attention seeker when she threw tampons at the assembly and poured fake blood during the prom announcements. Afterwards she just acted aggressively towards her dad and Rose and other than a figurative slap on the wrist she gets away with it?

I didn't feel anything for Hamlet and Clara since Hamlet was just a stereotypical quirky character and that's it. In the last third of the book she gets away with visiting a waterpark, going to a resort in Tulum to see her mother, ditching her friends in the process but how are they still friends with her? If you want a funny rom com skip this one and try The Sun is Also a Star since it's way better and funnier than this book despite the fact that it's a little bit unrealistic but at least the characters are enjoyable.

It is a great character development story! The story is geared toward teenagers, but adults can get something out of it as well.

Clara Shin lives with her dad in L.A and is the class clown. She likes to "stay in the shallow end" of feelings and make jokes of everything, but when she and the class president, Rose, get into a fight at prom and almost burn down the school cafeteria, she is forced to work with Rose in her dad's food truck all summer. As the two work together, Clara learns about having to face your feelings and what real friendship and relationships are like.

I loved every second of this book, so much so that I couldn't put it down and finished it in a little under a day. Clara is very real and relatable, her journey from class clown to actual person was easy to follow. I'd love to see a spinoff or novela about her dad and his realtionships being a single dad or her mom's adventures as a social media influencer.

I got this in a book box, and I really wasn't excited. It seemed like a tiring YA drama (read: juvenile) - or at least that's what I was expecting, but this book was SO CHARMING!

While i was more infuriated than Clara at the beginning, but I ended up loving the characters! They felt authentic, I loved the backdrop of the foodtruck, and the summer fun. I truly enjoyed this!

I recommend this book to readers looking for a light summer read, targeted at teenagers, but not necessarily a juvenile read (see above). You won't be disappointed!

This book is so sweet. I’ve spent the last month reading heavier books(in terms of the feels) and this book is exactly what I needed to lift me up to a good headspace.

Who can complain about a book that couples food and relationships(familial, platonic, romantic)? This is a great book for anyone that needs a feel-good read!!
