Fascinating, certainly quick and just so so fascinating to really hear from early Hemingway. I have an ache in my heart about it

Listening to this whole thing cleaning out the pantry:

"evil black* laughing" i... Actual awful racism. Every time the cook was mentioned he was black and his laugh was evil im ... I dont think he was even givin a name. "Me no play pool" kys thats actually insane i need to read real, good, authentic indigenous representation to cleanse myself. "Red brother" also actually crazy in the year 2024 but this was writen 40s or sum. AND not to forget the looking at highschool girls to see if this old man desired women actually disgusting those are children better fucking be just the character Ernest.

i get the statement that hemingway was trying to make with this book, and he was right on the nose, too. was still a bit boring, obviously. but i can't imagine it's supposed to be that well-liked—if hemingway wrote it as a jest.

This is an usual book. At times the story seems a little all over the place and Hemingway specifies or explains things in asides within the chapters, which is rather funny most of the time. It is a parody after all. If you're looking to get into Hemingway's work for the first time this is probably not the book you should start with.
