In retrospect, finishing the audiobook (HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE AUDIOBOOK) while doing a solo road trip may not have been the best mental health decision but I regret nothing. I'm sad, I'm angry, I'm moved, I'm scared, I'm feelings?!

A really neat twist. You will probably see it coming immediately, but delving into other characters brings a nice depth to it. But why does every book have to have podcasting in it these days? I feel like this would have worked just as well without all the podcast stuff.

I feel like this story felt moving to fast and too slow at the same time. One moment an event happen that feels like major reveal only to be overshadowed by something mediocre. Some unanswered questions. To be honest this book is not really for an adult audience.

This was a really good book. I love how the audiobook used different actors throughout the book. I like that it was modern and included podcast episodes, court readings, articles; the author created a whole world around the story.
It was a really strong story. I feel like the author took a tough subject and created a story that interwove it really well. I like the multiple points of view; I feel like it really adds depth and understanding to each character.
*spoilers ahead* I feel for Maddie and at the end I’m upset Jules gets to get out of the whole situation spreading lies and alive. Which is crazy to say you want a character dead but she was so awful. I didn’t expect Wendy to come through but I’m glad she did. I really want to hope Maddie and Kenny end up together quietly and peacefully.

I highly recommend reading this book. It is a fantastic take on the classic Carrie but with a modern day twist that comments on modern racism. Take your time with this book it has so much to give and all of it is brutally honest.

This book, while a thriller/horror story, is also reflective in looking at racism in society. Maddy has been forced by her father to 'be white', and hide the fact that she is biracial. He posts pictures of what she should try to emulate, white women, all around her room. She is quiet at school, until one day during gym, it starts to rain, her hair frizzes and curls and her classmates begin to make fun of her. A random earthquake occurs and begins a series of creepy events.

The story continues to reflect on the events leading up to prom, and the mass causality event that takes place that night.

Overall would recommend to those that enjoy a creepy/spooky story, it's just not my cup of tea. I did enjoy the character development and reflective pieces of the text. Jackson is a very talented author.

I have not read Carrie by King, but this is supposed to be a retelling.
