Oda isn't great at scary expressions imo - I feel like, for a series with such hype, I'm being let down. The story overall lacks direction and any sense of urgency or seriousness.

A fun and adventurous volume. The series is very fast paced and maybe wouldn’t be too hard to catch up to the most recent volumes...

Another awesome volume...I'm really enjoying this little journey on the seas with Luffy and Co.

Ya'll I am eating this series up. The world-building and character development in this have been so EPIC. I haven't been this invested and excited about a series in a while.

Enjoyed it very much, with the humorous and exciting fight continuing between Luffy and Buggy the Clown, and the introduction of another impending crisis that will be solved in the next volume hopefully.

The tone of this series really matches the pacing, the premise, and the characters. The lightheartedness and adventure mixed with deeper meanings and stories provides for an entertaining and balanced read.

Continuing on with characters however, is the protagnist himself: Luffy. He's been a bit up and down for me, but he was more "up" for this volume. He really is growing on me, I think. I appreciate his flaws, and the author seems to have a good grasp of this character by this point in the series. I'm sure he'll continue to grow on me.

This series just keeps getting better and better! In this volume, the passing and conflict are kept up non-stop. The story takes time to develop the backstory of every character, hero and villain, without ever feeling bogged down in too much lore. The introduction of Usopp is well done and compelling, and he's a character that acts as a good foil to Luffy.

Spoilers:

- Saw Luffy's new move, Gum-Gum bazooka...!
- This volume focuses on Luffy fighting Buggy
- Buggy's full backstory. I guess a lot of it's been retconned by now, but it at least explains a lot of his character and how he ended up where he is, so there's that.
- I always wondered what could have been: whether he too could have ended up a genuinely formidable pirate if his spirit hadn't been crushed by bitterness back then
- The story featuring Buggy ends in the first half of this volume, and opened up a question that made my suspension of disbelief wobble slightly.
- BUGGY knew Shanks. That plotline surprised me. They were both apprentices back in the day together.
- The scene where buggy puts his claws through luffys straw hat. I GASPEDDDD. No one is allowed to damage that hat. THE AUDACITYYYY. It was cute that Nami was able to fix it
- After Buggy and his crew are defeated, Luffy and crew just leave them behind, unconscious in the village. Who's to stop them from continuing their reign of terror, after they've recovered? Maybe there's something about that in the pirate's code, "more like guidelines," where the defeated party slinks away and starts over in the loser's bracket.
- The battle against Buggy the pirate clown was fun, but I really liked the ending when Luffy left some of the treasure on the dock for the townspeople since they’ll have to rebuild the island after all the destruction.
- There is a lovely one shot story called trial of the forest where he meets Gaimon. Its so well done
- The Usopp arc starts,I really like Usopp.
- I have zero background on One Piece so I don't know if he'll end up joining the crew, but I hope he does.
- We see the introduction of Usopp in this volume, who is like "the boy who cried wolf," yet has this sweet, tender side that no one really gets to see.
- Someone who likes to tell tall tales to a sick girl to make her happy, he's also fiercely proud of his heritage as the son of a pirate.
- This feeds into Luffy's story as they continue the search for a better ship and a crew. I'm starting to really like Luffy - the guy has no tact whatsoever, and this makes for some really funny moments as he just can't lie to anyone.
- While Usopps minions (the vegetables they are soooo cute onion, pickle and carrot) are comical at times, its Kaya who provides reason and depth for Usopps story.
- The next villains are Kuro and Django
- The next BIG villain is Captain Kuro and what he has planned for the village.
- Here's the first time we can't quite right away tell who the villain is. I was fooled by Captain Kuro's act.
- Kuro seems like an asshole.
- I can't wait for Luffy to punch the hell out of this guy.
- I would have to say that I liked the later chapters compared to the earlier ones.
- We also get to meet Kaya

It was later revealed that the butler was a thought to be dead pirate named Captain Kuro who is working with his first mate, Djano the hypnotist, to plot murder against Kaya! This was a twist I didn't see coming, especially since I had started feeling some sympathy towards this butler character. I thought that was executed really well! I like how the author can make you feel sympathy toward anyone, and how opinions on characters can change in just a few pages.

Thoughts:
1. I’ve always loved that Luffy knew Usopp’s dad.
2. Buggy and Shanks are adorable.
3. Zoro telling the little kids that they ate Usopp is one of his best moments.

Special Shoutout in this Volume goes to: Usopp (my sweet sweet Usopp)
Crew: Zoro/Nami/Luffy were all great. Usopp appeared and I like him.
Other Characters: Kaya is my precious child and Usopps "Crew" is fun. Gaiman is okay. Not totally keen on him.
Villains:
Clahador - HATE HIM. SIMPLY HATE HIM.
Jango - yuck
