Really beautiful illustrations! And the story is cute with a good moral - you must own up to your own mistakes and not blame someone else for what you did. Kids will enjoy the humor, and the text and illustrations will stand up to repeated readings. Very cute!

A super cute book about blaming others when we make mistakes, especially those who can't speak up for themselves (like the goat in the story). While this is a cute (super cute!) story about that process, it can be used to teach a lesson about *not* blaming others, too.

A cute story, but the pun will be completely lost on the target audience. The poor goat escapes from his pen to have some fun, and everyone on the farm who screws up blames him for their mistakes. This could be a good addition to a story time on telling the truth or goats or farms, but it's not outstanding and the illustrations are a little busy.

Cute story! It would work well to teach children about puns and/or idioms.

Reviewing as a part of my Fall 2020 kids' books reviews!

As opposed to the earlier [b:Lambslide|41154329|Lambslide|Ann Patchett|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1540797207l/41154329._SX50_.jpg|64328149], which was more about wordplay, Escape Goat is a book that teaches a pretty good moral about blame, accountability, and through the metaphor of the Farmer family and their pet goat. It's really bright, and the illustrations are funny and lighthearted.

I think kids could easily learn from this book, though, that:
• It's easy to blame someone else (a scapegoat) for bad things when they have a bad or even neutral reputation
• The scapegoat will be punished, even if they didn't do anything wrong
• Just because the scapegoat doesn't mind, doesn't mean it isn't wrong
• Unless someone stands up for them, nobody else will take accountability, and the goat will continue to be punished.
It's a great way to teach kids about empathy and justice, which is what the world needs right now, you know?
