Didn’t really know what to expect but the book surprised me nicely. Divided into three parts, it chronicles the life of the protagonist Pietro — first his childhood, then his early adulthood when he starts to discover himself as well as re-embrace the family he strayed away from, and finally his slightly later adulthood when he’s already built his world. All of these stages are explored through Pietro’s ties to the mountains, to his father as he spends time with him in the mountains, and to his childhood friend who never leaves the mountains. It’s beautiful how the events from outside the mountains barely interfere.

Lots of lovely nature descriptions and a captivating exploration of Pietro’s character and the two central relationships. A melancholy but beautiful read.
