Batgirl #11 - 3.5 out of 5 stars
Batgirl : "SON OF PENGUIN" - 3.5-4 stars out of 5 stars
Damn IT! This was supposed to be my Final rebirth Batgirl book , this was supposed to turn out to be another garbage issue and I was supposed to stop ... DAMN IT ! THIS IS GOOD !
What I Liked
Let Me start by saying that the art from Wildgoose and background by Lam are a charming , I had so much gripe with the initial art work in the previous Batgirl Rebirth titles , the Background was just filled with oversaturated yellow before and none of the facial features remained the same for 3 successive panels. Wildgose and Lam changed that as although this wasn't award-winning art but it was just good to look at and was consistent and matched the story really well.
Art aside the story was fast paced and intrigued me with it's depiction on how the modern day social media and data mining culture can be exploited . Meanwhile Batgirl returned with all her charming wits and the humour filled though bubbles that really made me reconnect with Barb in this book .
The concluding volume in particular was really satisfying as Batgirl is shown to be able to hold her own , deal with personal troubles , be with her friends in time of their needs and be smart enough to beat down new innovative and unique foes.
What I didn't Like
In terms of plot this is not the first time we see Barb dating a bad guy and even in terms of the plot as a whole , this is not really a new story in the Batgirl comic lore . In fact this has been done a lot .
Similarly the villain itself wasn't really all that good . It was like watching a Marvel movie villain . The plans had flaws aplenty , the motivations behind the plans were unclear . Most times plan seemed silly and in the end the villain came across and easily forgettable .
The mystery also could have been handled way better , Ever since the Rebirth launch thats been the case . It gets so easy that as a reader you can figure most stuff out by midway and yet Barbara is sitting clueless making cute faces and silly quips . Some detective masterwork . IT really doesn't help when anyone with half a brain solves the puzzle while the character known to be brainy struggles to even make sense of the puzzle.
Verdict
Buy it ! OMG JUST BUY IT ! Art is fantastic , story is fun , cool factor inside . Batgirl is back to being funny and charming . JUST GO AND BUY !
