Dante’s first wife died from cancer, and it was time to marry again since he was head of the mafia.
Valentina’s first husband died in an accident so her parents arranged a marriage between her and Dante.
Dante never really wanted to remarry and still mourns his first wife. He expects Valentina to be doing the same since her husband died more recently. He doesn’t know that valentinas first marriage wasn’t as blissful as it seemed, so she’s more ready to move on than anyone might think.
Logically that creates a lot of hurt feelings and confusion, especially when Dante is not used to speaking about his feelings.
I have this a 2star rating because the characters are very very similar to the first book in the series. I will not be continuing with this series.

I know a lot of people don't like Dante and think he doesn't really love Valentina, but I liked him and I have zero doubt that he loves Val. You can love more than one person in your life time. I wish that this book had been dual perspective because I found "Bound by the Past" to gloss over some of the moments that I was hoping Cora would cover. Also, because Dante doesn't show his emotions often it would have beneficial to the reader to be able to read his perspective and be in his head.

This book is very good. I have read this author before. If you are looking for mafia romances, she is one of my go to authors But I strongly encourage you to check your trigger warnings before reading this book.

Not gonna lie, this was a huge disappointment. I love bound by honor so much, I think I've read it 4 times.
But this book just felt incomplete. Dante and Val have no reason to love each other. They never talked about their feelings. Even their sex could've been better. Honestly, I'm not even sure I ship them. I feel like I was starting to ship them when the book ended. It was like their relationship was finally starting to make some sense, they were beginning to open up... And then it ended.
Seriously, when I saw "epilogue", I said OUT LOUD "Wait, that's it?". That's how incomplete this book was.
I still want to read the rest of the series, even the other one with this couple (maybe they make sense then). But this book... Meh.
