When Karen gets a package from her father,  right after her mother dies, she packs it up without a thought. Then her dad dies and attempts on her own life start happening. She's got to figure out why, and how to survive.

The mystery of the book flowed pretty well. Putting all the events together to find out why people are after her and what her father was involved in.

The romance of the book lost me. I'm all for enemies to lovers and love at first sight, but I felt like the author tried to do both. He doesn't like her, then realizes that she's putting on an act, and now he's got to care for her. After he helps her with funeral stuff, and a night of love, she runs away and then realizes she loves him. Just seems a little forced.

Altogether, an enjoyable, easy read.

Very good, very gripping story! An amazing tale of mystery, romance plus thrills and chills! :)

Like the last book I read by this author (Cover of Night) we read both the good guys and the bad guys stories. I find the bad guys to be a bit boring and too much extra info. But the good guys have me hooked in minutes!

New Orleans and Ohio. Dubious consent. Estranged father. Moving too fast. CIA, senators, and cops. Nurse.

Murder. War. Homelessness.

The first 'official' romance novel I ever read. Although I don't think I knew it was a romance novel at the time.

As such, it will always hold a place in my heart.

A re-read of one of the first "romance" novels I ever accidentally picked up at the used book store while still in high school. And, even though this has its "old-school" moments, I still love it.

Marc is a ridiculously alpha hero, who also manages to wear loafers without socks, and drawls in a southern Louisiana accent. Oh, la, but that wickedly sexy southern charm is hot in this one. Karen is not TSTL, but verges on it at times; on the other hand, she's independent and can be kick-ass. But still, an entertaining romantic-suspense novel.
