This book is fun but with a great message. The little tidbits of information about each ocean animal will enthral kids. Speech bubbles with humour - yes please. The personalities expressed by @atsurumi are captivating and engaging and while crab bakes a cake they work together to overcome a huge problem. It’s not a surprise why this book is on so many best lists - it truly will be magical in the hands of young readers and that’s what it’s all about.

Carries the message about keeping our oceans clean and keeping human garbage out of the ocean.

I really liked this one. Interesting and pleasant illustration style, cute combo of realistic and silly, great message.

Requires more than one reading, but that's a good thing.

I love the illustrations but the story doesn't lend itself to a read aloud.

July 2019 - a delightful combo of realism (and a lesson in caring for the oceans) and the absurd (a cake-baking crab).

Gorgeous, accessible illustrations pared with a beautiful read aloud. The environmental messages are shared at a level young children can understand while at the same time taking my breath away as an adult. Love this book and will be bringing it with us the next time we're lucky enough to visit the ocean.

I'm not even sure what adjectives to select to describe this book. It is both hilarious and lighthearted and funny and also packs a no-uncertain punch. Humans are the rudest. Sea creatures are super cool.
