My hubby and I listened to this on a roadtrip and we both enjoyed it. Cait has a good balance of emotional personal stories and step-by-step lessons. There were parts we both thought she repeated herself and droned a bit. I left contemplating my own choices and low-waste goals and encouraged a few family members to read it.

this was horrible. thought this would explore consumerism and mindfulness and the intersection especially under capitalism, and i was super interested in the shopping ban concept. instead, i got a detailed journey of the author’s relationship with alcohol and her parent’s divorce. the only actual advice was to “buy less takeaway coffees” (and i was even ready to sift thru bad dave ramsey advice!) also super fatphobic. the last six pages were the only useful material, and even then, it wasn’t much.

I enjoyed the writing style and the last couple of chapters a lot.

What I didn't like is that this book is very much an autobiography with a side of self-help. I signed up for self-help, without the autobiography...

Nothing special, but an enjoyable read! A nice plane or road trip book for the curious.

The author's overall goal was great, and she is decently skilled at writing, but I worry that she needed more mental health help for her problems than she got.

Less about reducing consumption than it is about the author's tendency to overindulge and subsequent refusal to allow herself to indulge in anything at all. Some relatable and relevant tidbits but it felt a little Spartan in a way that's largely unhelpful to anyone who believes in responsibly enjoying life.
