Emrys expertly blends the eldritch horror of Lovecraft with protagonists whom Lovecraft would have rejected (at best) or cast as the villains (at worst). It's hard to believe that this is the author's first novel, and I'm eagerly looking forward to the next book in the series.

Fascinating - cosmically, historically. And beautiful.

3.5 stars to be honest.
This book as a lot to say. It is rich and filled with detail, character development, settings, a beautifully built world, and a great message of existing through adversity and persecution. However I must fault this book for one thing, in focusing all the above mentioned points I believe the climax suffers. It was in a word anti-climactic, and the resolution felt to easy. That being said I really enjoyed reading this book. The characters were so much fun to get to know, but now that I have gotten to know them I wish I could see them actually do something... so maybe in a sequel.

Loved the worldbuilding and the little story touches, as well as how it interacts with the Cthulhu mythos but the story didn’t feel like it has any urgency - it meanders a lot.
