This was..... different. In that both characters were very different from the rest of the IAD world. It nearly felt like a spin off from the normal world of this series as there were very few appearances from series regulars.
I enjoyed it though.
I am starting to feel like I need this series to start wrapping up.
I've a feeling that's just me though

Why oh why did I put off reading this book for so long?!

I put off reading this book for a year. Both characters were new and they had a whole new faction introduced, that’s a bit tedious.

But Jo! She’s awesome. What a kickass heroine. I thoroughly enjoyed her once I gave her the chance. Rune grew on me too.

I wish Thad was in the book more. He was talked about a lot but I love that little cutie. I hope he ends up with Nat.

Now we have a whole new set of future characters. Nix, that delightful Valkyrie, is so much closer to goddesshood.

This was a real game changer for the Accession plotline.

Jo is a baddie that only Rune could handle. Absolutely love them both.

All my major spoilers will be hidden, so feel free to read on.

Jo's memories began at age 8, when she and her baby brother were discovered as orphans. Due to a tragedy, her brother was placed with a family and Jo was left alone. She developed powers that she didn't understand.

Fast forward 17 years. Jo stumbles upon Rune Baneblood "questioning" nymphs by paying with sex. That's what he does. He's also a Dark Fey (fey/demon hybrid) whose blood is poisonous. Last but not least, he's a deadly archer who has been tasked with assassinating Nix.

Jo hopes that Rune can tell her who and what she is. Jo is obsessed with three things. Finding out what she is, keeping tabs on her beloved brother, and yearning for her other half. Someone she can call her own.

Rune and Jo are inexorably attracted to each other. They might even be falling for each other. But Jo believes in monogamy, and Rune has no intention of giving up his "questioning."

Heartbreak is inevitable.
###
Jo is a very sympathetic character, and a hoot to boot. Rune is a lovable rogue. So, both the hero and the heroine are likable.

In spite of the fact that Jo holds out on Rune, this book has some scorching hot scenes. Whew!

Nix is both scary and hilarious. Other Immortals make cameo appearances, and one of Lothaire's lines made me laugh out loud.

I was a little disappointed that Kresley Cole brought
Spoileraliens
into the mix. But then, who else is strong enough to go up against Nix?

Raise your hand if you think
SpoilerOrion
is going to be Nix's mate. Anyone have any other ideas?

Okay, due to some of the reviews I've seen, I'm going to put it right out there... 'Cuz it's a really huge trigger warning for me.

Infidelity between the H/H? Not Really. Reason why? Some might view it as a spoiler so--->
SpoilerDude has literally been an actual whore for 7,000+ years. He doesn't turn it off immediately... —BUT— He does NOT have sex with another female once he meets Jo. He kinda comes close exactly twice, yet doesn't go through with it because of Jo.

So, because this was satisfactorily skirted for me, I can say that I pretty much loved this book... Though it did take me an embarrassingly long time to equate Jo's Thaddie with Thadeus from the Island. And while some people are calling this a filler book, I think that it really did have to come along right now. If we didn't have the information and events in this book, I think we'd be lost later on when things start to hit the fan. That or KC would have to try and info dump stuff in a very unsatisfactory way.

Therefore I'll say you can color me impressed. I greatly enjoyed this book and eagerly await the next.
