I'M SORRY??? THATS HOW IT ENDS?? AND I HAVE TO WAIT WHO KNOWS HOW LONG TO FIND OUT THE REST?? YOU CANT BE SERIOUS. MY MIND IS BLOWN. YOU'RE TELLING ME THAT IS THE LAST SENTENCE OF THIS BOOK?? I WAS CONVINCED THAT IT WOULDN'T BE A CLIFFHANGER BECAUSE UNLIKE TRULY DEVIOUS SHE HAD A THEORY BY THE END. WHAT IS GOING ON.

anywaysss
this was good but it wasn't Truly Devious level good. I just didn't get that vibe. It wasn't as delightfully atmospheric as the previous books. I didn't feel as connected to the characters either. However I was still really intrigued to see what happened. I didn't want to put it down whenever I picked it up. I literally can't believe that's how it ended. This is going to drive me insane. Also there was not nearly enough Nate in this book. And the reveal of who the murderer was wasn't very satisfying and the motive
Spoilerespecially for Samantha
made literally no sense

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again—I hope she writes one million of these.

I really liked the Truly Devious trilogy, and I heartily enjoyed Box in the Woods. The fifth book in the series is okay -- it kept me entertained -- but that shark is starting to encourage jumping. The plot does that thing that all 90s sitcoms did in which the main cast goes on vacation to another country and they do touristy stuff for too long.

Also, the David/ Stevie stuff is pretty played out, and I wished the character's personal conflicts were focused on something else. I liked it in the last book, but it's overstaying it's welcome.

And if you were ever on the fence about David, this book is not going to convert you. Hell, I didn't mind David, but this book made me think far less of him. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to be rooting for Stevie and David to work out, but I'm absolutely not.

They mystery itself is also okay. It's been better. I wish more page time was spent on the mystery rather than on the touristy stuff and the David stuff.
Overall, though, if you're a fan of the series, this will keep you fulfilled for a bit. It's not bad, but it's not the strongest episode of the bunch.
