This was somewhere in between a light read with a complex story line, and it fell flat on both. I kept waiting for The Rumor but it ended up being about a gossipy town and multiple tumors. The characters all did something wrong and got them in situations, which caused the town to start gossiping and jumping to conclusions.
There were more characters than needed and this made it more complicated and ended up making it less interesting to me.
I wasn't impressed.

Althought there were parts of the story that I found trite I did find most of the characters likable. I also found that the person who narrated Eddie's parts was not consistent with his accent.
I did like that there were female and male readers. The chapters were named for the character whose perspective/story was to be told. Also that Natucket itself was one of the characters.
Not one of Hilderbrand's best in my opinion.
