Have those tissues ready!
This story is so heartwarming yet gut wrenching at the same time!
Yes I’ve seen the movie and while it was a great modern adaptation, the book is so much better. This is the first Nicholas Sparks novel I’ve read and I’m just so sorry it’s taken me so long to read him.
He weaved a beautiful story and I could so easily picture everything unfolding in my mind. This is a great love story for the ages. The lessons given are timeless as is the love of Jamie and Landon. This is the type of love that I think most of us strive for. That selfless, never-ending kind of love.

My rambled thoughts… (these are mainly just for myself to look back on)
I remember when I first read this years ago I had an issue with it, even same with the movie, and that is that he didn’t fall for her until the play after seeing her physical beauty. I know that’s not entirely true and he does really fall in love with her, but it was always the one thing that bothered me after the move and even moreso in the book. Reading it again, yeah, still kinda felt that way. But there is character growth regarding Landon at the very end and I do think the story it wrapped up beautifully. There are also several quotes in here I really like, including the iconic “promise not to fall in love with me” one.
The book overall is not a favorite and I do not like Landon most of the way, but I do love this story.
My Rating System
1 star: Hated it/major DNF
2 stars: Not my cup of tea
3 stars: I liked it
4 stars: I really liked it! I can see myself rereading this
5 stars: A NEW FAVORITE!

I liked this book and read it very quickly. I loved the style of the book and really enjoyed the main two characters. However the story got quite boring after the “twist”. Nothing ground breaking.
