Wasn't a fan of this one compared to Darkhouse and I wouldn't recommend it. I don't usually like using spoilers but I was so confused by the plot I can't really discuss it without giving anything away.

SpoilerI thought the killer plot was dragged out and it didn't make any sense - how was everyone interlinked? Was it properly clarified how he knew everyone or were they random targets, or did I miss that in the messy writing? I felt that in the first half of the book the author was describing how lost the detectives were, but that she was actually referring to how she had no direction for the plot. The subplots which got added weren't given enough relevance to affect what happened - Anna's pregnancy was put in as another way to push Joe and Anna apart when there was already enough reasons for that, Shaun's 'rebellion' hardly rippled the water and Joe's jaw issues were put in as an excuse to talk more about teeth. The constant technical talk about dentists and teeth was tiresome and boring. Also Duke Rawlins in my opinion isn't threatening enough to carry off being a recurring character - I think he might be included as a back up so the author can basically write a rehash of Darkhouse to continue the Lucchesi series when she runs out of other ideas.

Maybe I would have liked it better if I had read the first book before the second. Haha
