This book takes place on D-day and goes through the perspective of many characters. It brings to light what happened on that day and how so many people's lives were taken in the blink of an eye.  One thing I particularly liked about the book was how it showed the perspectives of so many people. It showed how all these people came together to fight for a common goal.  Overall this book was like a window into another world but really it was just a normal window.

<Spoiler>One thing about this book that I don't like is the fact that there are like 4/5 Different Characters but the plot is interesting and it was a Blast to read

this is a really good book that has some dark edges and turns. This is a good book especially for those of you who like reading multiple books at one time  in this book you can. And this continues through all of his books and if you dont like the sound of this book from the other reviews there are about 10 others I would say you should try.

Allies was my first Alan Gratz book, and I expected nothing less of what I got. The details made me feel like I was in the story.  I particularly enjoyed the switch between characters. I was able to really get to know the characters and their stories. The plot twists, the character growth from just one day, everything was very well depicted. Great work!

Representation: Black character
Trigger warnings: World War Two themes, death of soldiers, explosions, gun violence, fire
Note that I bought this book and now I own it.

8/10, this is one of the few books that still hold up to this day ever since I first read this and picked this up from a second-hand store and I would still pick this up and read this again, this came from a brilliant author whose books I continue to read and he does a much better job at entertaining me than other similar books from other authors in this genre; it really puts me straight in the action so where do I begin. It starts off with a grand total of four main characters, Dee, Samira, James and Henry who each have their part to play in D-Day and all their stories are disconnected at first but soon they connect eventually. Dee is a soldier who just arrived at the beach ready to start the operation, Samira is part of the French resistance trying anything she can to slow down the German invasion by sabotaging it, James is a paratrooper also helping the allies as well as Henry who is a medic. Their combined efforts show themselves across the book and alongside the action in almost every page and the vivid details of the war I could really enjoy this and empathise with all these characters and the great sacrifices they've made in this war.

I enjoy how you read between different peoples perspectives and how you can hear different perspectives as the book goes on. The timelines of the characters are at a staggering pace so you can see how they react differently to the same situation.
