I was hoping this book would be different than it turned out to be. It didn’t feel cohesive to me, and I also wish it blended in more history. I found it really confusing, as it was billed as fiction but always felt like non-fiction, which was hard to get over for me. I did like though how it showed the reality of war. (Read for Central Book Club)

SPARKED AN INTEREST IN VIETNAM WAR. This book made me realize I really know nothing of the Vietnam War. To have such detail for each character and describe so clearly why they carried what they did made it very real.

Without spoilers, this book was a compilation of war stories told through Tim O'Brien's perspective in Vietnam. While some chapters link ideas to another chapter, there is skipping around chronologically. Overall it doesn't create a huge impact, at least for me as a reader. The plot of the book was interesting, but the book was assigned to me and I probably wouldn't have read it otherwise. What was enjoyable was Tim O'Brien's writing style, his use of run-on sentences and adjectives.
