This was like romance, women’s fiction, and magical realism all rolled into one.
I love a good time travel/memory loss plot like no other. This book totally reminded me of 13 Going On 30, Freaky Friday and a few other faves I had growing up. This has a distinct 90s/early 2000s charm about it, and I am so glad the author addressed this in her author’s note because I was hoping she would acknowledge these vibes.
This was thought provoking, life affirming, heart warming, and heart breaking. I was imagining myself in the main character’s shoes, and I LOVE when books make me reflect on life to such an extent.
As someone who has always daydreamed about “getting to the good part” of life, this was an absolute home run for me.
The writing was wonderful, the plot was perfectly done, and this made me laugh and smile until my cheeks hurt. There’s nothing better than a book that will grip you from the first page and then have you feeling an array of emotions throughout.
This was hilarious, emotional, and the romance was just the cherry on top. The ending was also perfect. I have zero complaints.
Thank you NetGalley, Sophie Cousens, and Putnam Books for this ARC! This publishes tomorrow on 11/7/23!

Thank you Putnam for the digital ARC and PRHAudio for the audiobook. I started with the audiobook and read the last half on my Kindle. The Good Part is like the movies 13 Going on 30 and Big mixed together into a women's fiction romcom. I'd say this one leans more toward women's fiction because the focus is on Lucy, but there is some romance involved as well. This book really makes you think about life and what matters most. Lucy jumps from age 26 to 42. As someone who is slightly older than 42, I thought it was perfect the way Lucy reacts to her new body and her lifestyle in general. Skipping 16 years would make the change to being a 40-something wife & mom a drastic change. There were some very tender moments with her friends, with Sam, and with cute and smart Felix. I really enjoyed this book. It was a quick read and the audiobook is great.

Thank you Netgalley and Penguin Group for this ARC.
I was excited to read this because I've loved one of Sophie Cousens books, and I didn't like another one. Sadly, this one didn't quite work for me either. The magical machine that grants wishes is in no way new or unique, but done the right way it can be enjoyable. I didn't mind that aspect of the story, but Lucy was what ruined the story for me.
She wished to be transported to the "good part of her life". When her wish was granted, she was ungrateful and selfish. She woke up to a beautiful family and spent almost the entire time trying to get back to her cheap apartment where the ceiling leaked all over her bed. Look, I get it that being transported 16 years into the future can be A LOT to wrap your head around, but this chick acted like she wasn't the one who wished for it.
Then, when she was told if she returned to the past she might not have the future she experienced, she more or less said, "f*ck them kids". How can meet your children, great amazing children, and be give all that up to go back to being a struggling single 20-something?
I'm sure there was a life lesson in this book but I just couldn't get around the fact that she got what she wished for and it was better than she ever imagined, and then she was ungrateful for it.
