I really wanted to like this, and generally liked the gist. But I desperately wanted more data, research, and sources.
Note - I listed to the audio book which did NOT include footnotes which I think would have made a huge difference.

Overall I would say this is a good intro to socialism. I didn't like his anti post Lenin USSR rhetoric. I think the way Katch showed his anti post Lenin USSR rhetoric lacks nuance and is dangerous for people who are new to socialism, communism and Marxism. He didn't provide an in depth analysis of how he came to that conclusion or any details as to why post Lenin USSR was misery for its people. I also wish that he had talked more about other revolutions in a little detail besides the Russian revolution.

I don't think I could've asked for a better introduction to socialism. Written in 2014, the author speaks with a modern tongue, and good bit of silly humor too. Quite a wide variety of information, history, and theory is covered in under 200 pages. The ravages of capitalism is becoming more apparent to people around the globe. I count this book an important additional element in my 'waking up', along with books such as: The Peoples History of the United States, Shock Doctrine, Overthrow, and Johnny Got His Gun. I now look forward to reading more about socialism and capitalism.

This was fine. A good introduction to socialism. Got a little tired of the tone.
