I've been trying to learn more about socialism, but more specifically, the work of Marx. This book was a pretty good beginner's book about what socialism is, but I don't think the arguments were super strong, but it was a good description of what socialism is.

I really wanted to like this, and generally liked the gist. But I desperately wanted more data, research, and sources.
Note - I listed to the audio book which did NOT include footnotes which I think would have made a huge difference.

Overall I would say this is a good intro to socialism. I didn't like his anti post Lenin USSR rhetoric. I think the way Katch showed his anti post Lenin USSR rhetoric lacks nuance and is dangerous for people who are new to socialism, communism and Marxism. He didn't provide an in depth analysis of how he came to that conclusion or any details as to why post Lenin USSR was misery for its people. I also wish that he had talked more about other revolutions in a little detail besides the Russian revolution.

This was fine. A good introduction to socialism. Got a little tired of the tone.

An entertaining, ultra-accessible introduction to contemporary socialism. I will probably hand copies of this book out like pamphlets.
