The story was pretty good overall, and it was interesting to tell the story of their connection, reconnection, and love in three separate chunks. However, having hated everything to do with stupid Covid, I was not enjoying that 2/3 of the book happened or resolved around stupid Covid. It was a horrible time, I don’t want to be reminded of it, and I don’t want to relive it, which is what those sections involved. And the political statements felt pointed and were not something I enjoyed. I also don’t enjoy when someone has an amazing person, but their first reaction is to run, so I did not relate to Sally in those moments. While I think a lot of people would really enjoy this book, it wasn’t a win for me. I don’t regret reading it, but I would’ve been fine to have not read it as well. Also, the title is apparently supposed to be ironic, which I did not realize is a Curtis Sittenfeld thing. It was neither all that romantic, and it was definitely not a comedy.
