This is a very simple book that tells about a snowy day, when mice, squirrels, groundhogs, snails, and bears wake up and going running and sniffing. At the end of the book they all find a flower blooming, telling us the spring has begun. The text is very simple and repetitive, I would have preferred to have it not so repetitive, as it’s not as fun to read aloud as some other books. For example, one two-page spread says, “They sniff. They run. They stop. They stop. They laugh. They laugh. They dance.” I usually add to the story when I read it aloud. The pictures are very cute, but they are only black and white. My three year old liked this book and laughed at it.

I requested this book from another library because someone had said it made a good readaloud. I looked over the book a few times and I would have to respectfully disagree. Oh well.

The artwork is beautiful. It looks like pencil drawings. There is an awful lot of running and sniffing and sniffing and sniffing. The little animals are cute. There is not much story here although the end is a nice surprise.
The kids gave this 3 stars too.

My son just brought this book home and as we were reading it together my eyes began to glaze over, it was so mind numbingly boring. I never rate children's books but I felt that this one was so bad it warranted an exception.

Anybody who thinks this isn't a five star book is a fucking idiot.

I really liked the illustrations, especially of the sleeping bears, but the text was a weird mix of dick and Jane simplicity combined with surprisingly little plot and a sudden ending!
