This book was a powerful and heartbreaking read that really cut me deep. I listened to the audiobook narrated by Amani herself where I became engrossed in the story of her and her family. This book is a deeply moving account of loss, intergenerational trauma and a nuanced exploration of the patriarchy. There are some parts of this memoir I feel could have been written more concisely but it is beautifully written as a whole. I greatly appreciate the vulnerability and strength of Amani and will remember this book for a long time.

My words can not accurately describe the grace and power of Amani’s  work. The Mother Wound is a book that will not only shape you, but hold you. 

I would recommend reading this as an audiobook as Amani narrates it.
