Have been meaning to finish this book but it was too devastating to continue earlier. So glad that I have read all of it now.

Amani insightfully illustrates how state violence is intrinsically connected to domestic and family violence.

This book was a powerful and heartbreaking read that really cut me deep. I listened to the audiobook narrated by Amani herself where I became engrossed in the story of her and her family. This book is a deeply moving account of loss, intergenerational trauma and a nuanced exploration of the patriarchy. There are some parts of this memoir I feel could have been written more concisely but it is beautifully written as a whole. I greatly appreciate the vulnerability and strength of Amani and will remember this book for a long time.

I'm really pleased I read this. I must admit it did lose me a little in the final chapters, after the court decision was handed down. I felt she lost her way a little, it didn't flow as well as the first three quarters of the book. Nevertheless, an important book to read.

This is one of the best and important memoirs I’ve read. Everyone should read this.

Vital reading! I work in the sector and still learnt so much.

Fuck haydar haydar and his vile family, I hope they rot.
