Great story! The love story was ok, but as a story of healing and moving on, it moved me. What I loved most were the side stories (especially Olive and Ronnie), though Harry, Amanda and Oriana were great characters. I think the way it ended was wonderful, but I wonder what Oriana felt about giving away that last bag of gold and what the magical conclusion was for her.

There were a lot of things I loved about this book but the main thing was Harry and his perspective. I really loved this story but there were a few things - which I won't write about and spoil for others - that kind of bummed me out but overall just a wonderful story of love and loss and friendship and hope and karma. I loved it.

I felt like the backstories on some of the minor characters could have been shorter. Also it wasn't clear in the audio that the very beginning was a newspaper clipping, and I didn't realize there were illustrations in the book either. It's hard to categorize this one as by the end you're still not sure if something magical was happening, but there were an awful lot of coincidences. Overall I enjoyed this, there's a great librarian too, and it made for a good book club discussion.

Harry's Trees is a story about grief and recovery that somehow manages to be fanciful and resist sentimentality. Oriana, a voracious fairy tale reader who spends much of her time either in a treehouse or with her best friend Olive the librarian, is enchanting. Olive has the kind of sage, raw power that makes me fall in love with the library field all over again. The prose is beautiful, the symbolism is heavy, and all I want to do is make my way over to Wilderness Tract A803.
