An absolute delight. I loved dialing into this book day after day. It went in such interesting, winding and reflective directions. The ending is a bit clumsy but I can appreciate the effort to do something a bit different. and that effort to do something different keeps this an incredibly refreshing and pleasantly surprising read all the way through.
I thoroughly enjoyed the way this book meanders through it's themes. I can see areas where it would have benefited from more editing but I didnt at all find it a slog. Eiko's entire storyline remains disjointed from the rest of the book but even there, I can't complain much because of how thoroughly enjoyable and committed to its premise this book is. It left me in a very particular mood long after I finished reading , to the point that I almost didnt want to start another book until I'd savored this one a little bit longer.

Omg, this book is mind boggling! The amount of research the author had to put into this writing has to be astronomical. This book is SMART and literary. It's philosophy. It leaned more toward realistic, I definitely could have believed this was non-fiction.

This book took on consciousness, communication, indifference, the unintended consequences of science and development, animal rights, human rights, and more. I loved seeing how the 3 story lines came together and affected each other in unexpected ways. There's so much to digest and learn here. The way some of the through lines came full circle was really impactful! I think my mind is blown

Think Arrival or Annihilation, with slow burn first contact and nature decaying, more than Jaws. There isn't a lot going on with the "killer ocean animal" thrill here.

The idea was good but 3 storylines running together was abit confusing the don’t come together until the very end , the ending of the was a let down felt rushed and very simple compared to the rest of book
