I thought this was so interesting. The world building and the mix of mythology was something I don’t think I’ve seen before. Some it didn’t quite fit together but it was an interesting premise. I do have a few gripes, like the romance. I didn’t really see the chemistry, to me they seemed more like friends and when they started kissing it seemed a little abrupt. Also, Michael’s character was a little inconsistent. I liked him but at times he seemed really callous and uncaring of the plight of the Nephilim. Anaba was great and badass but her romantic feelings for Michael came out of nowhere to my eyes. The fight scenes were cool and it’s refreshing to read a fantasy book about people with wings and have it be an action fantasy and not a smutty romance. Things moved almost to quickly and I really wish there would have been a bit more mystery in who the bad guy was and the motivations. It’s a debut novel with an interesting world and I hope it gets better.

Wow this book was pretty cool. I loved how the author meshed several mythical origins from biblical to Norse. The adventure is super action packed. I think I would have like if there was a bit more resistance to the fantastical side in the beginning but it wasn’t a big deal. I wasn’t a fan of the romance personally, couldn’t feel their chemistry and I thought they would be better off as friends given their awesome teamwork. I would definitely recommend if you find biblical stories or even mythology in general cool.

This was fine but I found myself not picking it up to read. It’s me. Others will enjoy this.

This book moves fast!! There's always something happening, tons of action and tons of battle scenes. It pulls you in and keeps you reading. The characters are interesting, very morally grey. I've never read a fallen angel story quite like this. As a horse person myself, I absolutely adore the attention the horses get in this!! They're central to the plot and the story, and you can really tell the author is a horse person too. I really enjoyed this fresh, interesting, and exciting story.

I got this arc because I found the blurb interesting, read it and think this a great story. It's so fast paced that sometimes I had to stop and breath. The world building is original and I appreciated how it mixes different mythology, angels, nephilim and makes it working together.
It starts as a thriller and then it drives you to unexpected places.
The characters and the world building are excellent, the author is a talented storyteller.
Some parts reminded me of Gaiman's Sandman stories and others of Good Omens but the author was able to recreate a new mythology.
I can't wait to read another book by this author.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

This was a stunning mix of mythology, fantasy, and realism. Jackson’s characters are flawed but realistic, some more morally grey than others. This is a combat heavy novel, so if you’re one for action and adventure, you’ll nose dive into this. There’s a lot of religious references and although I don’t have much religious knowledge, I didn’t feel like I was overwhelmed by the references. There’s also some romance for those that like a bit in their fantasy novels!

This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review

I'm having trouble finding the right sentence to use in starting this review.
The first line of this book is entrapping. It kept me in a suspension. I began wondering what was happening.

You see what Patricia A Jackson does in this book is that, she takes you by the hand and throws you through the Vestibule road and smiles because she knows you're going to be riding through one Hell (pun intended) of a journey.

When you pick this book, you have to will your imagination to explore questions of what would happen if the creation story went this other way? What happened to this part of the creation story and why did we really never talk about the antagonist in the story. Patricia A Jackson, is willing to help you out in figuring an answer to this questions we sometime find ourselves asking.

The Forging A Nightmare, follows a 28 year old FBI special agent with a thick celestial heritage and history he doesn't really know much about. When he and his partner are called to debunk the mysterious maimed bodies with twelve fingers and twelve toes, popping around the city. Michael J Childs soon begins to uncover deep secrets engulfing his whole existence.

This story takes you back and forth, riling and tempting your imagination to take a leap of faith, to trust the characters, to actually believe in their own stories.

Every scene has its own importance, nothing is ever there without a reason and everything has a role to play regardless of how insignificant it might seem.

The Characters have this thick layer of mystery, you'll find yourself trying to rip apart so you can see that humanity in them. I so much enjoyed the diversity of characters, from a main black man as the protagonist, to an LGBT protagonist, to the Asian and Hispanic hints in other characters.

The diversity definitely made this book special because it's a story told through a black woman for the BIPOC world of readers.

I just reviewed Forging a Nightmare by Patricia A. Jackson. #ForgingaNightmare #NetGalley
