Better than the first one by far but had to deduct a star for the length

If I could give this book a million stars, I would!!!

A Day of Fallen Night is somehow richer and even more enthralling than Priory, which I didn’t think was possible. The characters are beautiful and the themes of family, identity/self, and loyalty that are explored in this story are deep, complicated, and just beyond words. I felt more attached to these characters than in Priory, which (again) I didn’t think would be possible. The last 100 or so pages had me sobbing with a huge smile on my face. I can’t say much more without (unintentionally) spoiling things but if you read and loved Priory, READ THIS!!!!!

Samantha Shannon has created something extremely special in the Roots of Chaos world and I’m so excited to see what comes next!!!!

Samantha Shannon has done it again with a book I'll never be able to stop thinking about ever!!! I have too many screaming thoughts for a coherent review. But this was without question a 5 ⭐ epic with everything I've ever wanted in a fantasy novel: war, tragedy, comedy, found family, lesbian milf warriors, trans scientists, ace aro princesses with mommy issues, religious fervor, the SLOWEST BURN I'VE EVER READ... more to come as I wake sweating in the night thinking about the Roots of Chaos. I can never thank Shannon enough for making this into a series.

An excellent prequel without too much fan service but still connects to Priory in satisfying and interesting ways. Nice one Shannon
