Please don't judge me, but I loved this book. I think I just read it at the right time and in the right place (on an airplane). The murder scenes felt super campy to me, and it made all the violence and gore tolerable. The sex scenes in this book were absolutely filthy. I felt like this book had more smut than Ali Hazelwood's books. I immediately downloaded the second book in the series (Leather & Lark) because I had to read about Lachlan and Lark. Butcher & Blackbird goes all in on the friends to lovers trope. If you liked the television show Dexter, you might enjoy all of the scenes of killing a serial killer in this book. The first half is angst and murders and the second half of the book is smut. Also, all of the scenes with Rowan working as a chef made me think of the television show The Bear. My one criticism of this book was the extreme time jumps to fast forward 1 year.

Content: mentions of sexual abuse, extremely graphic sex, violence, gore, death, cannibalism

I tried to read this book two months ago, but I could not get into the story (maybe because of my mood at that time). My friend told me to listen to the audiobook, so I did (and I do not regret it).

Honestly, I do not know what to think about this book.
A love story between two serial killers (who, both, kill serial killers) is a great idea. In practise, I felt like it was lacking a bit. However, I did enjoy the love story and tension between the main characters. What I enjoyed most was probably the found family aspect of this book.

In summary, it's a very light, cute love story (which sometimes felt weird and indecent, because it literally talks about cannibalism, paedophilia and murder).

Butcher and Blackbird by @brynne_weaver was a 5 star read. No notes.

Okay. Some notes.

Pros:
🔪 Dexter vibes
🩸Serial Killers that don’t just kill serial killers, but they also kill the scum of the Earth.
🔪The Game
🩸When that spice hits, *chef’s kiss*
🔪Them cooking together was just so sweet.

CONS:
🐮 The Cookies N’ Cream moment was just a lot.

🍦🍦🍦🍦🍦out of 5 questionable cartons of ice cream

Ate. This. Shit. All. The. Way.  Up!!
Funny. Dark. Romance was top tier. Slowburn was gratifying af. Stayed up all night on this one. Couldn’t get enough. Plot was great, not something I’ve come across yet. Characters were brilliantly fleshed out, even the side characters. Little bit gory. Little bit tense. Everything felt to be in good balance for what the author was trying to get across. I genuinely loved this and immediately opened the next book as soon as this one closed.

This is probably one of my most surprising books of this year. I was not expecting to lik this story mostly because of the more gory content in it. The spice didn't bother me either, I did skip over a couple parts, but that's just personal preference. This is such a fun book to read. It has murder, mayhem, and of course romance. What more could you ask for?
